I have modest hope that some of the damage that Presidents Musk and Trump are doing may be limited by federal judges. They have stopped the ridiculous Executive Order to override the Constitution by eliminating birth citizenship. It’s evidence of the incompetence of his advisors that they even presented this to him. However, no one is acting fast enough to deal with his breaking of contracts and grants that have already been given and for which I assume he and the federal government can be sued.
DOGE Law?
When I did contracts and grants, we or the contractee had to give 30 days notice before the contractor grant could be canceled. I haven’t heard that there been any court filings stopping the arbitrary cancellation of the contracts and grants ensuing for damages. This must be done! Civil servants are not political appointees and cannot be simply fired or even laid off or suspended without doing so according to the laws and rules governing the civil service. I’m not aware of any authority that Elon Musk or DOGE have to do any of this. Hopefully, the lawsuits concerning the illegal firings and placing of civil servants on suspension and the termination of grants, contracts and funding will result in in Trump having to pay back wages for all of the civil servants fired or suspended with everyone knowing that because of him and Musk They got paid millions for doing nothing. I also hope that damages will have to be paid by the federal government and that losing the cases will demonstrate the incompetence and criminality of both Musk and Trump!
The good things that have happened are:
- Lawsuits have been filed.
- The attacks on members of Congress when they meet with their constituents.
- Beginning of impacts on the public liked reduction in services at the national parks apparently canceling a camping at Yosemite.
The bad things that have happened are:
- The hunger, starvation and lack of medical care children and adults in Africa and many other parts of the world.
- The waste of $800 million for food meant for those in other countries and immediate need.
- Trump and Vance’s shameful behavior with President Zelenskyy weakening themselves and America.
- The Republican cowards in Congress canceling their town meetings because they’re afraid to meet with their constituents.
- No analysis of research to increase efficiency in the government. All suspensions and firings have been completely random, except for the attacks on DE I, and firing people on probation, low-lying fruit. Musk has even fired probationary employees who received awards and bonuses for their actual performance while lying that they
were poor performers. - Firing safety officers in training in the FAA endangering airline safety.
- No analysis to find any inefficiencies or fraud. Simply making cuts blindly.
- No transparency! No analysis or provision of information about why federal employees are being fired or laid off and contracts and grants terminated, nothing about efficiency or efficiency analysis, and nothing about the consequences, positive or negative.
- Lying about the war on Ukraine; accusing Ukraine of starting it and Zelenskyy not Putin being the Nazi.
- Negotiating to abandon Ukraine in return for phantom trade deals with Adolf Putin.
- Just plain cowardice in Trump’s letting Putin scam him and treat him like a sucker in negotiations for peace in the Ukraine. Trump is demonstrating what a poor negotiator he really is!
Who is the GOP Working For?
Only time will tell what the consequences of the thoughtless actions of Presidents Musk and Trump will be. Most Americans will feel some negative impacts as a result of these actions and the fact that all of Republicans in the House of Representatives and the Senate are simply Trumpete puppets. The only thing they care about is being reelected. They care nothing about the nation or their constituents. They are working for Trump not them, not us.
I hope that the people who voted for Trump in 2024 will wake up and vote for a landslide Democrat takeover of Congress in 2026. That is really the only hope that we have for saving our country over the next four years. Anything else that is done will just be Band-Aids.
